An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted in 1914 as Gunner 1313 in the Bolton Artillery. Commissioned 28/01/1916, following promotion to Sergeant on 06/01/1916. Reported missing and believed drowned.

Pinch, Bertie –
Son of Thomas and Ellen Pinch, of Dent, Yorkshire; husband of Joanna Pinch (nee Jost), of Weaving Terrace, Dent, Yorkshire, and formerly of 2, Latham Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously a tram conductor in Bolton. Served as Police Constable 86 of the Bolton County Borough Police from 07/08/1913 until enlistment for military service. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/225). Killed by a shell splinter. His brother Vincent, of Dent, Yorkshire, served as Gunner 74415, Royal Garrison Artillery and survived.
