Almond, John William –

Husband of Rachael Almond (nee Kirby), of 80, Havelock Street, Preston, Lancashire. Previous service as CSM 3282, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment (enlisted Preston 21/10/1890 and discharged at own request after 18 years service 31/10/1908), including service in the Soudan Campaign. Re-enlisted at Preston as Company Sergeant Major 3707, 7th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Served as a Gymnastic Instructor at Aldershot.

Booth, John –

Husband of Mrs. Booth, of 5, Cole Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Former regular soldier with South Africa Medal, clasps for Orange Free State and Cape Colony. Shot in chest and thighs 27/03/1918, died in Canadian Hospital.

Cohen, Manfred –

Son of Mrs. Frances Cohen, of 219, Great Cheetham Street West, Higher Broughton, Lancashire, and the late Morris Cohen. Previous service in the South African campaign as Sapper 1001, Royal Engineers. Former service number 6639. Commissioned in the field at Delville Wood. Wounded by shrapnel at Passchendaele.

Connolly, William –

Husband of Rose Ann Connolly (formerly Smith, nee O’Donnell), of 127, Folds Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served 4th Bn, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, enlisted 10/01/1883. Served in the South African Campaign as Corporal 3771, 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Captured prisoner of war at La Bassee 22/12/1914 and held at Wittenberg Camp, and later transferred 30/05/1916 for internment at Chateau d’Oex, Switzerland. Discharged due to debility following Typhus, Gastric Ulcer and Pleurisy whilst in captivity.

Davenport, John –

Husband of Elizabeth Ann Davenport, of 8, New Church Street, Radcliffe, Lancashire. Previous service as Private 5438, 1st Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, enlisted Bolton 19/01/1897 aged 20, and discharged 18/01/1909 on termination of period of engagement. Served in the South African Campaign.

Grant Duff, Adrian –

Son of the Rt. Hon. Sir Mountstuart E. Grant Duff, P.C., G.C.S.I., and Anna Julia Lady Grant Duff, C.I.E.; husband of Ursula Grant Duff, of 16, Mulberry Walk, Chelsea, London. Designer of the “War Book”. Grandson of Hannah Ainsworth (daughter of Richard Ainsworth of Smithills Hall). Gazetted Second Lieutenant, Black Watch, 23/03/1889. Served in the South African Campaign.

Horrocks (Mann), Thomas Henry –

NOTE:- Served as Thomas MANN. Son of late Elizabeth Ann Horrocks (nee Mann), and stepson of John Horrocks, of 12, Crompton Street, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Mary Ellen Mann (nee Fletcher), of 6, Royley Row, Kearsley, Lancashire. Previously served as Corporal 3182, Lancashire Fusiliers, in the South African Campaign, having enlisted 06/05/1897 at Bury, Lancashire, and discharged 05/05/1903 as time-expired. Wounded through mustard gas 1917. Joined Royal Flying Corps 11/01/1918 and transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918.

Hutchinson, George Knight MacGowan –

Second son of the late Mr. William Hutchinson, of the Bolton Waterworks Department, and of Mrs. Hutchinson, of Beverley Mount, Deane, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1884-1887). An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Previously served as Private 2644 in the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry in the South African Campaign.

Matthews, Abraham –

Husband of Helen Matthews (nee Faulkner), of 46, Broughton Road, Pendleton, Lancashire. Previously served 12 years as Private 6098, 3rd Bn., Grenadier Guards from 29/10/1896 to 28/10/1908, including service in the South African Campaign. Wounded.
