Husband of Rose Ann Connolly (formerly Smith, nee O’Donnell), of 127, Folds Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served 4th Bn, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, enlisted 10/01/1883. Served in the South African Campaign as Corporal 3771, 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Captured prisoner of war at La Bassee 22/12/1914 and held at Wittenberg Camp, and later transferred 30/05/1916 for internment at Chateau d’Oex, Switzerland. Discharged due to debility following Typhus, Gastric Ulcer and Pleurisy whilst in captivity.
