Caught aged 28 as an absentee from 3rd Bn., Border Regiment at Great Crosby since 15/12/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 18/12/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/28). Recorded as having deserted 31/12/1917, but this subsequently cancelled and medals reinstated.
