Caught aged 24 as a deserter from Kinmell Park, Rhyl since 23/09/1915 and appeared before Bolton Magistrates 16/10/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Address on discharge from War Service was 58, Beaconsfield Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Re-enlisted 19/01/1919 as Private 7807613, 17th Bn., Machine Gun Corps.
