Leigh, Darren –

Husband of Marie Leigh, and father of Limara Leigh. Died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage only hours after learning he was to receive the Military Cross for his action during a riot in Basra, Iraq in August 2003. Received a full military funeral at St. Peter’s Church, Swinton, Lancashire, before interment at Agecroft Cemetery.

Liptrott, John (Jack) –

Of Devon Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Died after being overcome by fumes attempting to rescue children in a mineshaft at disused Brackley Colliery, Little Hulton, near Bolton, Lancashire. Interred 23/04/1968 in Bolton (Tonge) Cemetery.

Martindale, Alan –

Son of Celia Martindale, of Ainsworth Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded by gunshot in the shoulder aged 19 while on patrol in the Springfield Road area of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Mather, Ernest –

Son of Jane Mather and the late John Mather, of Farnworth, Lancashire. Killed at the battle of Omdurman and interred at Royan Island.

McNally, John –

Son of Richard and Ann McNally, of 3, Back Foundry Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

Moss, John –

Son of John and Mary May Moss (nee Clegg), of Westhoughton, Lancashire. Interred in Imtarfa Military Cemetery, Malta.

Newman, George –

Husband of Fanny Maria Newman, of 12, Vine Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Served 21 years in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. Died March 1915.

Owen, David –

Died of natural causes. Interred at Wardley Catholic Cemetery, Worsley, Lancashire.

Phethean, Thomas Percy –

Of The Thorns, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Served as a volunteer in the South African Campaign. Interred at Bolton (Heaton) Cemetery.
