Son of Mary Jane Winstanley (formerly Cook, nee Johnston), of 147, Harrowby Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted June 1915. Formerly Driver 2209, Royal Field Artillery. Served in the Dardanelles and later in France. Killed instantly by a piece from an enemy shell. Memorial in Farnworth (St. James) Churchyard.
