Son of Richard and Ellen Crompton, of 87, Adelaide Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1914. Served at Gallipoli and wounded at Suvla Bay. Prisoner of war.

Son of Enoch and Mary Crook, of 17, Mill Street, Dunscar, Turton, Lancashire. Formerly 2nd Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Mistakenly reported as having been killed in December 1914, subsequently confirmed alive. Wounded several times. Assisted the wounded Fusilier hero, Private Lynn (mentioned in Sir John French’s despatch) to the field dressing station after he had been gassed.

Son of Ainsworth and Elizabeth Ann Crook, of Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Margaret Crook, of 117, Westbrook Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded in the head and hand in November 1917. Died from wounds received 19/10/1918.

Crook, Matthew –

Son of James and Elizabeth Crook, of 7, Irma Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Whilst serving guarding the railway line at Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire, Matthew was accidentally killed by his brother Private William Crook, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, when a rifle William was handling discharged accidentally. One of two female friends being entertained by the brothers at the time was also wounded.
