Smith, John Henry –

Husband of Mrs. Smith, of 12, Green Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 24, Rose Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted December 1914. Reported missing from 10/07/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Smith, Robert Standing –

Son of Alfred Smith, of 1, Victoria Road, Preston, Lancashire; husband of Ada G. Smith, of 54, Brackley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Joined up in May 1916 leaving his business as a dentist. His brother Frederick joined the dental section of the Royal Army Medical Corps in October 1914.

Son of Mrs. Smith, of 20, Newport Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 16308, 10th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Steele, George –

Son of John William and Sarah Ann Steele, of 23, William Street, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Stephenson, Albert –

Only son of Mrs. Stephenson, of 8, Georgiana Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported missing after the fighting of 26/10/1917, and subsequently presumed killed.

Stevens, Robert Naylor –

Son of Bessie Eccles (formerly Stevens), of The Fold, Barrow Hall Lane, Great Sankey, Warrington, Lancashire, and the late Thomas Stevens; brother of Mrs. Vane, of 67, Brackley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Reported missing since 17/02/1917 and subsequently presumed killed.

Stones, Joseph –

Husband of Mrs. E. Stones, of 9, Kay Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 93, Primrose Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915.

Stones, Thomas –

Son of James Stones, J.P., M.P., and of Betsy Stones, of Sunnyside, Highfield Road, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Employed in the secretary’s department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Hunt’s Bank, Manchester prior to enlistment. Formerly 21st Bn., Royal Fusiliers. Seved in France and Italy, and had been recommended for a commission shortly before his death. Memorial in Farnworth (St. James) Churchyard.

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Stones, of 26, Higher Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Reported wounded and missing since 17/08/1917, and subsequently presumed killed. Memorial in Farnworth (St. James) Churchyard.

Son of Robert Stones, of Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Beatrice Stones, of 126, Hall Lane, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Brother of John (Loyal North Lancashire Regiment) and Gunner Robert Stones, (Royal Field Artillery).

Son of Robert E. and Ann Stones, of 74, Buckley Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire. Joined up May 1916. Killed by the shock of a shell burst.

Grandson of Stephen and Ellen Barrett; brought up by an aunt of 52, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery.

Sunderland, Arthur –

Son of Margaret Sunderland, of 79, Bentinck Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Went down with the battlecruiser HMS Invincible at Battle of Jutland.

Swarbrick, Joseph –

Son of Robert and Ellen Jane Swarbrick, of 34, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the office of the Farnworth and Kearsley Co-operative Society. Enlisted November 1917. Posted missing since 27/05/1918 and subsequently presumed killed. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church, Farnworth.

Son of Mrs. Syddall, of 137, Darley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and the late Mr. Syddall, and formerly of 6, Osbourne Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Of 141, Darley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. A despatch rider and signaller with 12 years service, most in India. Re-enlisted September 1914. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church, Farnworth.
