Previous territorial service with 4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Posted missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Returned from America to rejoin his regiment as a reservist at the outbreak of war. Died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, received in the Dardanelles, but died shortly after arrival at hospital in Alexandria.
