Wilkinson, John (Jack) –

Son of Charles James and Eliza Wilkinson, of 20, Harper Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted February 1917. Reported missing since 26/10/1917 aged 19 years, and subsequently presumed killed.

Wilkinson, William Henry –

Husband of Mrs. Wilkinson, of 108, Peel Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Previously served eight years as a regular and six as a reservist in the Cheshire Regiment before emigrating to Canada. Discharged 26/01/1917 suffering from Gas Poisoning. Lately resided at 108, Peel Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Next of kin listed as Susan Wilkinson, of 12, Duke Street, St. Helens, Lancashire. Died from consumption following two operations of the effects of gas. Interred 25/03/1918 in Farnworth Cemetery. Recorded as W N Wilkinson in F&WJ.

Williams, Maurice –

Son of Peter Thomas and Ellen Williams, of 18, Peel Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company before leaving for Canada in 1912 to take up farming. Died in No.4 Canadian Field Ambulance in France from a gunshot wound in the abdomen and a shrapnel wound in the right leg caused by a bomb dropped by an enemy aeroplane during the night. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery.

Williams, Samuel –

Son of George and Betty Williams, of 163, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Williams, of 132, St. Germain Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Died from peritonitis following an operation for appendicitis. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery. Reported as Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in F&WJ.

Williams, William Herbert –

Resided with sister at 62, Elizabeth Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Severely wounded 07/08/1915 near La Bassee. Died at Old Mill Hospital, Aberdeen. First Farnworth man to be interred at home.

Williams, David –

Husband of Annie Williams, of 46, Gorton Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly of 7 Albert Place, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in November 1912. Reported missing since 26/08/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Williams, Edwin –

Brother of Private Harold Williams and Mrs. Tyson, of 7, Milford Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Of Leach Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915 on his 19th birthday. Formerly 12269, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Twice wounded, and posted missing since 30/11/1917.

Son of Edmund and Martha Wilshaw, of 30, Lower Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted February 1915.

Wilson, Samuel –

Son of the late William Wilson; husband of Nellie Wilson, of 54, Harvey Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire (CWGC), and formerly of 146, Worsley Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Canadian records indicate father John Wilson, of Swinton, Lancashire. Killed by gunshot wound to the head.

Wolfendale, Ernest –

Stepson of James Rostron and son of Eliza Rostron (formerly Wolfendale), of 25, Phethian Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire, and the late John Wolfendale; husband of Emily Wolfendale (nee Gaunt). Killed in the Low Moor Munition Works explosion at Low Moor, near Bradford, Yorkshire.

Wolfendale, Harry –

Son of Albert and Elizabeth Wolfendale, of 6, Lark Hill, Farnworth, Lancashire. Lost at sea when his ship was mined in the Channel. Body not recovered for burial.

Husband of Ann Wolstencroft, of 19, Lee Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Previously served six years with the Royal Garrison Artillery. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery.
