An old boy of the Hollands School. Born Farnworth, Lancashire. Wounded multiple times. Formerly 5th Bn., Rifle Brigade. Reported locally to have been awarded the DCM, but no evidence currently found of this award.

Son of James William and the late Mary J. Fox (nee Lindley), of 14, Ann Street, Kearsley, Lancashire, and stepson of Margaret Ritchie Fox (nee Jeffrey). An old boy of the Hollands School. Enlisted July 1915. A scout and a sniper. Killed instantaneously by a shell.

Fray, Matthew –

Son of Lincoln and Clara Fray, of 45, Greendale Road, Port Sublight, Birkenhead, Cheshire. Native of Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. A Farnworth man who went down with HMS Viknor, an armed merchant cruiser, off the north coast of Ireland. Body not recovered for burial.

Gaskell, George Edward –

Son of Edward and Margaret Alice Gaskell, of 82, Carlton Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. Taken prisoner 10/04/1918 and died of exhaustion 22/09/1918.

Hindley, Thomas Henry –

Husband of Annie Hughes Hindley (nee Scrivens), of 38, Darley Grove, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded early 1916 and attached to Manchester Regiment. on return to service after recovery. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed. Brothers Sam and Albert also served.

Of 6, Vernon Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. Formerly employed in the canal department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Found drowned in the canal between the Radcliffe Road and Hall Lane bridges.

Wilkins, George –

Son of Emanuel and Martha Wilkins, of 9, Lime Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 32, Clammerclough Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. An old boy of the Hollands School. A bugler, he was knocked down by a motor lorry when sounding the Last Post, and died the next day. Memorial in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard.
