Archer, Frank –

Son of Thomas the Hannah Jane Archer, of 8, Mill Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a moulder at the Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted May 1915. Died of pneumonia in France.

Son of the late Thomas and Hannah Jane Archer, of 8, Mill Lane, Horwich, Lancashire.

Atherton, Edward –

Son of John and Louisa Atherton, of Townley Brow Farm, Rixton, Lancashire; husband of Mabel Eliza Atherton, of 60, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Attached Machine Gun Corps.

Bain, Ebor –

Of 2, Julia Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Medal Card records name as Eli Bain. Enlisted August 1916. In BJ&G and BC he is reported as E. BAINES.

Barker, John Capel –

Son of Councillor and Mrs. John Barker, of Wylam House, Wylam Road, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Northumberland. His brother also fell.

Barton, James –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Barton, of 14, Factory Hill, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the paint shop of Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted January 1916.

Bennett, Albert –

Only son of Frank and Anna Bennett, of 17, Knowsley Grove, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works. A member of the Bolton Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.

Billington, Whitworth Leonard –

Son of Whitworth and Sarah Ann Billington, of “Tilia”, Dodds Bank, Shavington, Crewe, Cheshire, and formerly of 11, Victoria Road, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. B.Sc.(Man.) Killed by the explosion of a shell.

Brownhill, Albert Victor –

Of 1, Summer Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works. Reported missing since 07/07/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Carter, Joseph Octavious –

Son of Henry and Lydia Carter, of Leicester, Leicestershire. Of Fir Cottage, Moor Platt, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Seriously wounded by shrapnel in the head. One of four brothers on military service.

Charnock, Joseph –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charnock, of 42, George Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly 44564, South Lancashire Regiment. Posted missing since 10/04/1918 and subsequently presumed killed.

Chester, Richard –

Son of Mrs. Mary Chester, of 7, Fox Holes, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1916. Reported missing since 11/04/1917, and subsequently presumed dead.

Chipchase, Jesse –

Son of John Joseph and Mary Alice Chipchase, of 12, Brazley Avenue, Lower Brazley, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works.

Cooper, Herbert Allen –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, of 14, Melbourne Grove, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Returned from South America to join up for war service. Wounded 09/04/1916.

Cotton, Ernest –

Son of Joseph and Martha Cotton, of 2, Sandeford, Brownlow Road, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Formerly Royal Flying Corps. Reported missing in BJ&G following an aerial engagement on 29/07/1918 NOTE: CWGC incorrectly records death date as 25/07/1918.
