Hurst, William George –

Second son of Mr. and Mrs. Hurst, of Hadfield, Derbyshire; husband of Edith Jessie Hurst (nee Leach), of 6, Melbourne Grove, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of 21, Victoria Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Mortally wounded 01/10/1918 and died four days later. Service number recorded as PS/8071 on SDGW.

Ince, Albert –

Husband of Mary H. Ince, of 18, William Street, Chorley, Lancashire. Formerly employed at the Horwich Locomotive Works. Mobilised as a reservist 05/08/1914. Formerly Private 7976, 2nd Bn., and Corporal 7976, 10th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Posted missing since 12/10/1916, and subsequently presumed killed.

Ince, Frederick –

Son of Robert Henry and Ada Ince, of 2, East Garden Street, Bury, Lancashire. Formerly 1st Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Entry duplicated on SDGW.

Ireton, James –

Son of John James and Sarah Jane Ireton (nee Mason), of Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly of the Lostock Industrial School, Lostock, Bolton, Lancashire.

Jackson, Hugh Lawrence –

Son of Henry and Annie Jackson, of Hollybrook, New Longton, Preston. Native of Glenthorne, Horwich, Lancashire. Killed by a shell.

Johnson, Joseph –

Youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wright, of 69, Ainsworth Avenue, Lower Brazley, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of Captain Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted in February 1915. Also served in Egypt.

Johnson, Robert Crane –

Son of the late John and Katherine Johnson, of 4, Short Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Reported missing since 15/06/1915 and subsequently presumed killed.

Johnson, Geoffrey Robert –

Son of Mr. Robert Thorley Johnson, former headmaster of the Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School, and Mrs. Lilian Johnson, of Gloucestershire, later of “Yalta”, King’s Road, Colwyn Bay. His brother H. Norman Johnson was wounded, shot through the knee, in the Dardanelles.

Jones, William John –

Son of Maurice and Elizabeth Jane Jones, of Myrtle House, Westcliffe Drive, Blackpool, Lancashire, and formerly of Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a clerk in the Horwich Loco Works Accountant’s Office. Enlisted October 1915. Formerly 3984, 1st Life Guards. Posted missing since 18/11/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Jones, Edward –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jones, of 26, Cross Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Second of four brother serving in khaki to fall. Brother Charles also served, was wounded and discharged.

Jones, Ernest –

Son of Thomas Jones, of 9, Evans Street, Horwich, Lancashire, and the late Elizabeth Jones. Previously worked at Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted January 1915.
