Son of John and Hannah Royley, of 60, Church Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Son of John and Hannah Royley, of 76, Warton Street, Lytham, Lancashire, and formerly of 60, Church Road, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly Private 5140/202248, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Rudd, William –

Of 30, Back Stoneclough Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Joined the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1891; served in the South African Campaign, and wounded in the hip. Joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in September 1914, and was discharged in May 1915, whence due to his hip injury, he joined the Lancashire Fusiliers on home duty. Died at Townleys Hospital from Septic Poisoning, and interred in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard on 07/02/1917.

Rushton, James Boone –

Son of William and Hannah Rushton, of 24, Albert Street, Church Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1916. Formerly 10119, Training Reserve Bn. Killed by a shell.

Scarlin, Arthur Harold –

Son of the late Walter James Scarlin, and of Annie Gregg Scarlin. Of 36, Church Road, Liscard, Cheshire. Fatally injured when hit by a train at New Cross Station whilst on sentry duty and died at Lewisham Hospital, Kent. Brother of Reverend William James Cyril Scarlin, vicar of St. Stephen’s, Kearsley. Interred 12/10/1914 at St. Anne’s Church, Stanley, Liverpool. Listed as H A Scarlin in F&WJ. Home service only.

Seddon, Frank –

Son of John and Mary Seddon, of 92, Market Street, Stoneclough, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted December 1915. Wounded in the head and shoulder and died at a casualty clearing station.

Settle, Robert Jackson –

Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Settle, of 139, Lorne Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Alice Settle, of 19, Green Lane, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915. Formerly XIX Platoon, “E” Company, 20th Bn., Manchester Regiment. Wounded in the shoulder July 1916.

Son of George William and Sarah Sheppard, of 24, Vernon Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 37-39 Clammerclough Road, Kearsley, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Sheppard, of 20, Bridge Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery. Brother Harry in the Royal Field Artillery.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Shippobottom, of 85, Station Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Of Kearsley Mount House, Manchester Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Played football as a full back for Bolton Wanderers. Previously served as Corporal GS/1926 in the 26th (Bankers) Bn., and 31st Bn., Royal Fusiliers. Commissioned 26/06/1917. Fatally wounded by a gunshot to the head. Surname recorded as Shippobotton on SDGW.

Son of George T. and Jane E. Stones, of 318, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1914. Formerly 025075, Royal Army Service Corps. Died of severe wounds to the chest received 26/06/1918, and pneumonia, at 55th General Hospital, Boulogne, France.
