Died as a result of an accident which occurred on 21/08/1917 when a comrade, Private William Marsh (240726), was cleaning a Very pistol, which he did not realise was loaded, and it discharged the charge into Sidney’s forehead.

Haydock, Richard –
Son of Andrew and Sarah Haydock, of 8, Cannon Street North, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 9, Tower Street, Chapeltown, Lancashire. Formerly Private 7425, 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Was on sentry duty when the trenches were attacked by a German raiding party. Although they were beaten off, Haydock was severely wounded and died soon after.
