Enlisted May 1916 from 55, Everitt Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Aunt lived at 38, Ellesmere Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Several brothers also served. Attached 8th Bn. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Knight, Wilbraham Arthur –

Son of Mr. W. J. and Mrs. M. A. Knight, of 13, Luton Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Father was cashier at Raikes Bleachworks. Orderly to Colonel Hesketh. Killed when a piece of shell pierced his steel helmet. Recorded as A Knight on CWGC and in local newspapers, and as Arthur Knight on SDGW.

Son of James Laidlaw, of 26, Gordon Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Jane Laidlaw; husband of Alice Nuttall (formerly Laidlaw, nee Wilcockson), of 30, Blackshaw Lane, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 13, Vincent Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly in the employ of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company in the goods department. Formerly Private 7039, 4th/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Lavers, Herbert James –

Son of Battery Quartermaster Sergeant Herbert Colston Lavers and Georgina Lily Lavers (nee White), of 28, Halstead Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 56, Pole Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the Milk Department of the Bolton Co-operative society. Also commemorated at Gretna, Dumfriesshire.

Leather, Joseph –

Son of William Henry and Elizabeth Leather, of 54, Crook Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915. Wounded by shrapnel in the back 02/08/1916 and died on the way to hospital after completing repairing a communication wire.

Lever, Robert –

Son of John and Mary Ann Lever, of 36, Artillery Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1914. Wounded 31/07/1917 being hit on the chin by a sniper’s bullet and in the neck with shrapnel. Reported missing 30/11/1917, and subsequently reported killed having been shot in the head.

Son of John and Sarah Ellen Lever, of 7, Cannon Street, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1909-1912). Previously worked for the London and North Western Railway Company as a Clerk at Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Emmanuel Church and School. Killed by gunshot to the head.
