Glaister, George –

Son of Hannah Glaister, of Breightmet Hall, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Alfred Glaister. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1898-1899), and the Bolton Church Institute. Formerly Private, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Previously wounded in the ankle in April 1915. Gazetted to Lieutenant from Second Lieutenant July 1917. Acting captain at time of death.

Gorse, William –

Son of Jessie Gorse, and the late Henry Gorse; husband of Mrs. Jane Gorse, of 62, Kestor Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted May 1915. Missing since 31/07/1916. His brothers Arthur, Harry, and Joseph also served.

Gould, Silas –

Son of Joshua and Elizabeth Ellen Gould, of 175, Harrowby Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Attached 177th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers. Died at 3rd Canadian Field Hospital. Brother Stanley served in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Second son of Sergeant Charles Edward and Clara Green, of 50, Eden Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted March 1915.

Green, James –

Husband of Annie Green, of 58, Lord Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1917. Badly wounded in the left leg below the knee by a large shell fragment.

Greenhalgh, James –

Son of George and M. Greenhalgh, of 16, Ferguson Street, Lyon Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 58, Livingstone Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 19 as a deserter from 2nd/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Blackpool since 20/11/1914 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 24/11/1914 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25). Killed during a shell bombardment, described by Lieutenant Tong as “one of the most willing and efficient grenadiers.”
