Son of Jonathan and Alice Ellen Ainscow, of 358, Derby Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a bottler at Messrs. Magee, Marshall and Co’s Crown Brewery. Died following wounds to the head, hand and leg.

Ainsworth, Ernest –

Son of John William and Annie Ainsworth, of 186, Deane Church Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company as a clerk at Moses Gate. His brother Albert served in Salonika.

Almond, James –

Son of Thomas and Sophia Almond, of 189, Willows Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1915. Formerly 6782, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Husband of Eliza Ann Carter (formerly Ashton) of II, Eckersley Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

Aspinall, James –

Son of Mrs. Aspinall, of 7, Olive Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Aspinall, of 15, Unsworth Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 452, Bridgeman Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Reported missing since 30/11/1917 and died from wounds in German hands whilst prisoner.

Bamber, Richard –

Husband of Gladys Bamber, of 7, Ramwell Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Hulton Collieries Pretoria Pit. Brothers serving in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

Bamford, Edwin –

Son of Charles Bamford, of 85, Auburn Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Brother serving in the Bolton Artillery at Colchester at time death was reported in BJ&G.

Barlow, Richard –

Son of James and Elizabeth Barlow, of 97, Adelaide Street, Daubhill, Bolton. Lewis Gun Section.

Bayley, Harold –

Son of William Ernest and Elizabeth Ellen Bayley, of 101, Adelaide Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. A member of the Bolton Yeomanry before the war. Formerly Trooper 4381, Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. Caught aged 21 as an absentee from Kendal since 23/01/1916 and appeared before Bolton Magistrates 03/02/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26). Attached Machine Gun Corps. Killed by shrapnel. Sometimes also recorded as Harold BAILEY.

Bickerstaffe, William –

Son of William and Jane Bickerstaffe (nee Richardson), of 17, Jubilee Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Of 17, Isabella Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 24 as an absentee from Rhyl since 21/08/1915 and appeared before Bolton Magistrates 24/08/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26).

Boardman, Edmund –

Son of Mrs. Boardman, of 11, Parkfield Road, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported wounded July 1916. Killed during “a very gallant and successful raid with bombs, and, along with his company officer, died a most honourable death.”
