Wounded in the historic retreat from Mons above and below the right knee, and later wounded in the hip and suffered gas poisoning at St. Julien and discharged July 1915. Re-enlisted on recovery and formerly Private 1503, 12th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.
