Son of Albert and Harriet Boardman; nephew of Mary Westwell, of 3, Brook Street, Bolton Road, Westhoughton, Lancashire. Formerly employed as a railway goods porter by the London and North Western Railway Company at Atherton. A Corporal in the Bolton Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, attached to the Royal Marine Medical Unit. Also served with the Sick Berth Reserve in WWII.
