Appeared aged 31 before Bolton Magistrates 19/07/1917 charged with having feloniously married Gwendoline Beatrice Griffiths (under the name Charles Cain) at Lancaster Register Office 13/04/1917, whilst still married to his former wife who was still alive at the time. Remanded and committed to appear at the Manchester Assizes. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/28). Reported in newspaper as Lance Corporal. Sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for bigamy at the Manchester Assizes. Twice wounded.
