Joined the Officer Training Corps and commissioned as Second Lieutenant into the East Yorkshire Regiment, before transfer to the Royal Flying Corps. Reported missing after one day at front on 13/04/1917, captured prisoner of war, interned at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Repatriated 17/12/1918.
