Appearing before Bolton Magistrates 04/06/1917 and also 17/07/1917, when he was also charged with assaulting Detective Sergeant Hawkins on 16/07/1917 at 9, Alice Street, Bolton. Remanded until 19/07/1917 whence the assualt charge was dropped and him sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/28).
