Caught as an absentee from Perham Down since 05/12/1916 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 11/12/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27). Wounded at Ypres 04/10/1917 in the face, both knees and right forearm by shrapnel; lost right eye.
