Son of Mary Ann Gregory (formerly Ormrod), of 41, Primrose Bank, Blackburn, Lancashire, and the late Robert Ormrod; husband of Mary Ormrod (nee Hodgkinson), of 68, Oxford Street, Blackburn, Lancashire. Previously served four years (time-expired), Royal Field Artillery. Enlisted 25/11/1914 at Oaklands, South Australia, in the Australian Light Horse, and discharged 06/02/1915 as being of bad character and not likely to become an efficient soldier.
