Formerly an apprentice fitter at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company’s Horwich Loco Works. Formerly Corporal 1610, 1st/4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded 15/06/1915 at Festubert. Re-enlisted in Royal Flying Corps 05/12/1915. Transferred to Royal Air Force on formation 01/04/1918. NOTE: also recorded as Frank RANCE.
