Caught aged 21 as a deserter from Aldershot since 01/03/1914 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 10/08/1914 and 13/08/1914 to be sent back to his unit now at Seaforth under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25) Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yoorkshire Railway Company as a shunter at the Halliwell Sidings. Reported missing 30/11/1917 and subsequently confirmed prisoner of war interned at Minden, Westphalia.
