Caught aged 39 as an absentee from The Castle, Carlisle since 06/01/1915, and as a deserter from Shoeburyness since 14/09/1915. Appeared before Bolton Magistrates 08/01/1915 and 05/10/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25). Wounded at the Dardanelles and the Somme. Also served in the 1st, 2nd and 6th Bns. of the Borders.
