Caught aged 40 years as Private 12153, 14th Bn., Cheshire Regiment. as AWOL from Birkenhead since 07/11/1914 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 17/11/1914 to be sent back to his unit under escort. Re-enlisted February 1915 as Private 5836, 2nd Bn., Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Caught as an absentee from Naas, Ireland since 10/02/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 15/02/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25).
