Previously served 6 years with the Royal Army Medical Corps. “Court of enquiry convened to investigate the death of Private Duckworth was of the opinion that he met his death by accidental drowning in a ditch, near the Ypres-Poperinghe Road, on the night of November 10th, 1917.”

Son of Frances Duffey, of 22, Fairview Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Died of wounds (shrapnel wound back penetrating) at No.1 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station.

Duffy, Joseph –

Son of Peter and Mary Duffy; husband of Mary Hannah Duffy, of 21, Blandford Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and formerly of 12, Robina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Previously served 3 years with the Lancashire Fusiliers. Died aged 50 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis at Toronto, attributed to war service on 17/05/1934. Interred at Prospect Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in Veterans Section 7. 2614.

Son of Mark Dunion, former Police Sergeant at Horwich, and also of the Bolton Borough Police, and the late Agnes Dunion, of 9, Bute Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly of 19, Grafton Street, Bolton.

Eaton, Arthur Wellesley –

Son of the late Edward Eaton, and of Mary Hannah Eaton (nee Allsop), of 41, Deansgate, Bolton, Lancashire. Late of Cranleigh School, Surrey. “Previously reported missing, now Killed in Action. He was instantly killed by enemy fire during operations in the vicinity of Mount Sorrel.” Body not recovered for burial.

Son of the late Moses and Jane Edge. Brother of P.C. Aaron Edge of the Bolton County Borough Police, of 33, Ulleswater Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Of 45, Lena Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Served 2 years and 9 months with the Royal Northwest Mounted Police in Canada at Regina, Saskatchewan. Also 79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada.

Elliott, William –

Son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Elliott, of 1, Holt Street, Salford, Lancashire. Killed in the vicinity of Courcelette.

Entwistle, John James –

Next of kin recorded as Nina Margretta Entwistle, of 48, Willows Lane, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a Locomotive Fireman with previous service in the Territorials. Circumstances of death: “Whilst in charge of an evacuation party during an attack in the vicinity of Olive Trench, Vis-en-Artois, about 3 o’clock on the afternoon of August 28th 1918, he was attending a wounded man, when he was struck in the left lung by an enemy machine gun bullet and instantly killed.”

Formerly Private 79320, enlisted 17/11/1914 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Previously served three years with the 4th Bn., Manchester Regiment.

Finnigan, Thomas –

Son of Thomas Finnigan, of Duke of Wellington Hotel, Duke Street, Stockport, Cheshire. Later of 17, Broughton Avenue, Layton, Blackpool, Lancashire. Formerly of Roundcroft Tavern, James Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Attached No.3 Canadian Field Ambulance, Canadian Army Medical Corps. He received gunshot wounds in the thigh, legs and hand, on 13/06/1916. He was removed to No.17 Casualty Clearing Station, but succumbed to his wounds at 6.55pm the following evening.
