Simpson, Edward –

Son of Mr and Mrs. Simpson, of 62, Fylde Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Reported as wounded and missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Smedley, John –

Husband of Mrs. Smalley, of Venture Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previously served with the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in the South African Campaign. Reported missing since October 1914 and subsequently declared as presumed to have been killed at that time.

Smith, James Arthur –

Son of Annie Smith, of 64, Higher Darcy Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late James Smith. Formerly of 6, Bentley Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1915.

Smith, William –

Son of Mrs. Smith, of 459, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire, whilst employed in the fitting shop at Horwich Loco Works. Joined the Coldstream Guards in August 1912. Battalion gymnastic instructor. Won a silver cup in France in September 1918 by defeating Private P. G. Smith of the Canadian Motor Machine Gun Corps in a six-round pugilistic contest.

Somerville, John Charles –

Son of Charles and Mary Ann Somerville, of 17, Unicorn Street, Peel Green, Eccles, Lancashire; husband of the late Annie Somerville.

Tarbuck, William –

Husband of Emily Tarbuck (nee Braddock), of 35, Emerson Street, Hightown, Lancashire, and formerly of 27, Norwood Grove, Bolton, Lancashire. Detective (formerly Police Constable 124) in the Bolton County Borough Police since 13/05/1909 and mobilised as a reservist for War Service 06/08/1914. (Bolton Archives: ABJ/22/167). Taken prisoner of war in Germany 30/10/1914 and repatriated 18/12/1918. Returned to the Police Force 13/02/1919.

Son of Cyril and Mary Jane Taylor; husband of Dorothy Ethel Taylor, of Bow, London.

Taylor, Robert –

Of 37, Plover Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Thornley, James –

Husband of Betsy Thornley, of 29, Milner Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a labourer in the employ of the Bolton Corporation. A brother served in the Royal Army Service Corps.

Threlfall, Herbert –

Son of Ellen Threlfall, of 121, Folds Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded by gunshot 04/11/1918.

Turner, George –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Turner, of Woods Tenement Farm, Turton Road, Hawkshaw, Lancashire.

Walker, John –

Son of James and Florence Maud Walker; husband of Mary Walker, of Farnworth, Lancashire.
