Eldest son of Of 102, Park Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1889-1895). Enlisted August 1914. Formerly Private, 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Commissioned from the rank of Sergeant following transfer to the Machine Gun Corps.
