Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works and latterly as a marine engineer on their Goole to Dunkirk and Zeebrugge services. Previously served four years as a signaller with the Horwich Territorials (4th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire REgiment). Killed by a shell while fixing barbed wire defences.
