Gornall, George –

Son of William and Sarah Jane Gornall, of “Brookfield”, Heaton, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1905-1910). Formerly Sapper, Royal Engineers. Listed as missing since 27/03/1918 and subsequently presumed killed.

Goth, Richard –

Of 19, Malvern Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1915.

Greenhalgh, Harry –

Son of Grace Greenhalgh, of Hillside, Stoneclough, Lancashire, and the late William Greenhalgh. Formerly of 18, Folds Road, Ringley, Lancashire.

Greenhalgh, Herbert –

Husband of Mary Greenhalgh (nee Green), of 49, Nuttall Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Previous service with the Manchester Corps of the Royal Army Medical Corps volunteers.

Greg, Arthur Tylston –

Son of Colonel Ernest William Greg, C.B., and Marian Greg, of Norcliffe Hall, Styal, Cheshire. Formerly of Higher Dunscar House, Egerton, Turton, Lancashire. Formerly 3rd Bn., Cheshire Regiment.

Hill, Harry –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Hill, of 22, Chalfont Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly employed in the Bolton Public Health Offices. Enlisted May 1917.

Hirst, Herbert –

Second son of Ralph Greensmith and Mrs Hirst, of Kendlemere, Lever Edge Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. First enlisted as Air Mechanic Second Class 13370, Royal Flying Corps, and was discharged as not approved 11/11/1915 due to an injury to his leg. Rejoined in 02/03/1916 and transferred to become an officer cadet May 1917, commissioned in August 1917. Wounded 20/10/1917 whilst returning from a bombing mission and treated at the Prince of Wales’ Hospital for officers at Marylebone, London.

Hodkinson, William –

Formerly employed as a comber overlooker at the Wingates branch of the Great Lever Spinning Company.

Holden, Henry –

Of 1, Charles Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915. Wireless operator.

Holden, John Edgar –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Holden, of 195, Bury Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Formerly 6th Bn., Royal Scots. Commissioned October 1917.

Howarth, Walter –

Son of R. H. W. Howarth, of 120, Parkfield Road, Great Lever. Bolton, Lancashire. Gazetted to Second Lieutenant.

Howcroft, James –

Of 207, Willows Lane, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 29, Longfield Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1915. Served as an observer in France ’till a bad landing by his pilot all but killed him.’ As a result he suffered dislocation of cercival spine and paralysis of all limbs.

Howlett, Charles –

Caught aged 45 as an absentee from Retford since 01/11/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 02/11/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/28).
