Proffitt, Frederick Angelo –

Son of Counc. J. T. Proffitt, of Fairhaven, Memorial Road, Walkden, Lancashire. An old boy of the Farnworth Grammar School. Enlisted aged 17. Formerly Private 383, Plymouth Bn., Royal Marine Light Infantry. Wounded in the Dardanelles. Commissioned Temporary Lieutenant 01/03/1917.

Savage, Frank –

Son of James P. and Annie Savage, 170, Crown Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Enlisted September 1915 as Private in the London Regiment. Musketry and bomb instructor. Commissoned 25/10/1916.

Settle, William Robert –

Eldest son of Robert and Maria Rachel Settle, of 4, Harper Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 19, Clifton Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Served on HMS Africa and HMS Indomitable, including the Battle of Jutland.

Shelmerdine, John –

Son of Samuel Arthur and Priscilla Shelmerdine (nee Farrar), of 27, Royds Street, Longsight, Manchester, Lancashire. Captured prisoner of war and interned at Limberg, Germany. Repatriated.

Simms, Albert –

Son of John Thomas Simms, of 125, Worsley Road, Farnworth, Lancashire, and of 50, Blindsill Road, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1917. Also recorded as ALFRED SIMMS on some records. Went down with his ship at the Battle of Jutland. Body not recovered for burial.
