O’Donnell, William –
Of 34, Beatrice Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted in 1854, aged 14, in the 27th Inniskillings. Served in the Crimea and the Indian Mutiny. After 24 years and six months with the Colours, he joined the 82nd Regiment. of Volunteers which later became the South Lancashire Regiment. Although aged 76, was still active as recruiting officer in Bolton in 1915, and believed to be the oldest recruiting sergeant in the county.
