Brother Company Sergeant Major Jack Sharples, 6th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Simpson, William Robert –

Son of Lilian Simpson (nee Cooey), of Cronk Dhoo Castle, Greeba, St. Johns, Isle of Man, and the late Thomas Edmund Simpson, and formerly of 181, Morris Green Lane, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Elizabeth Simpson (nee Ormston), of 17, Gordon Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Wounded in the Dardanelles and died at hospital in Alexandria, Egypt.

Son of Adam and Betsy Smith (nee Lord). Resided with his sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Seed and her husband Charles Seed, at 972, Bury Road, Breightmet, Bolton, Lancashire. Originally reported missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Spencer, Thomas –

Son of Henry and Mary Spencer (nee Threlfall), of Bolton; husband of Ada Spencer (nee Clayton), of 28, Meredith Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 79, Bull Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Caught aged 35 as an absentee from Felixstowe since 05/09/1915 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 09/09/1915 to be sent back to his unit under escort. Son of George and Martha Stallard (nee Gardener), of 29, Grasmere Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

Tatlow, Harry –

Son of the late James Teare Tatlow and Martha Tatlow (nee Hughes), of Ravenstone, 9, Lightburn Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire. Listed as Barry Tatlow on Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School WWI Roll of Honour, and also an old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1906-1908). Formerly employed at Hunt’s Bank, Manchester, as a clerk in the traffic department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Enlisted September 1914.

Husband of Edith Jane Devereau, of 27, Elizabeth Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly of the Farnworth Gas Works. Enlisted December 1914.

Thompson, Norman –

Son of Walton and Hannah Thompson (nee Hadfield), of 28, Horace Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire. Date of death reported as 11/05/1915 in BJ&G.

Tickle, Richard –

Son of Richard and Sarah Ellen Tickle (nee Derbyshire), of 23, Barlow Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted August 1914. Died at Netley Hospital as the result of a gunshot wound received in action at the Dardanelles. The wound in the elbow necessitated amputation of the arm.

Travis, Robert –

Son of Walter and Mary Travis (nee Stones), of 536, Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported missing 09/08/1915 and subsequently presumed dead.

Tunnah, Ernest –

Son of James and Sarah Ann Tunnah, of 56, James Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Annie Tunnah (nee Nolan), of 82, Soho Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Caught aged 25 as AWOL from Barrow since 13/11/1914 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 17/11/1914 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/25).

Son of the late John Varle and of Catherine Varle (nee Fraser) of 3, Pike Road, Bolton, Lancashire; brother of John William Varle, of 24, Peabody Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Worked as a postman for a time in Bolton. Enlisted December 1905. Formerly 1813, Northumberland Fusiliers.

Son of Mr. and Mrs Walker, of 6, Webster Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 35, Thurnham Street, Morris Green Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Eleven years service in the Army, including service in India and Burma. Death date also reported as 30/04/1915.

Warren, Thomas –

Of 107, Lee Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. Reported missing in 1915 and subsequently presumed killed. His brother Stephen, of Barnsley, Yorkshire, was also killed.
