Son of Thomas and Ellen Lower (nee Caldwell); husband of Clara Hetty Lowe (nee Gregory), of 770, Wigan Road, Hart Common, Westhoughton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Blue Coat School, Warrington, Lancashire.

MacDonald, Jonah Boyd –

Son of Alexander and Bertha MacDonald, of 23, Sunning Hill Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1914. Reported as Jonas MacDonald in BJ&G.

Marsden, Harry –

Third son of Malachi and Alice Marsden (nee Ramsbottom), of 96, Darley Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire, and later of 9, Prosperous Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire. Served in India before the outbreak of the Great War. Slightly wounded on 25/04/1915, rejoining his unit on 26/05/1915.

Marsden, James –

Son of Malachi and Alice Marsden (nee Ramsbottom), of 96, Darley Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire, and later of 9, Prosperous Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Louisa Marsden (nee Webster), of 13, Raby Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915.

Marsden, Albert –

Son of Joseph Masden, of 4, Middle Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed.

Marsden, Thomas –

Eldest son of William and Maria Marsden (nee Catterall), of 4, Gordon Avenue, Deane Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and later of The Antelope Hotel, Little Hulton, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1914 into the 3rd Bn., and voluntarily transferred to the 1st Bn. to get to the Front more rapidly.

Mather, James –

Son of William Henry and Alice Mather (nee McDona), of 62, Sloane Street, Daubhill, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 24, Woodbine Road, Morris Green Lane, Bolton, Lancashire. Reported missing since 09/08/1915 and subsequently presumed killed.

McCarthy, Hugh –

Husband of Mary Ann McCarthy (nee Harkin), of 16, Claughton Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Served at the Siege of Ladysmith in the South African Campaign with the 1st Bn., King’s Liverpool Regiment from the age of 17.

McDermott, Martin –

Son of the late Patrick and Bridget McDermott, of Richmond Place, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 3, Wingates Square, Westhoughon, Lancashire; husband of Elizabeth Ann Ackers (formerly McDermott, nee Armstrong), of 31, Acton Street, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire. Served in the South African Campaign, and wounded at Spion Kop. Four brothers serving the colours.

Son of Mr. Walter William McDowell, confectioner of 200, Eskrick Street, Bolton, Lancashire, and Mary Ann McDowell (nee Pape). An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted September 1914.

McLoughlin, John –

Son of James and Sarah McLoughlin (nee Grimes); cousin of Mrs. Thomasson, of 24, Ralph Street, Bolton, Lancashire.

Melling, George Edwin –

Son of Albert Melling, landlord of The Bulls Head Hotel, 154, Market Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and Mary Melling (nee Hindley).

Miller, John –

Son of John and Ellen Miller (nee Hilton), of 221, Spa Road, Bolton, Lancashire.

Morris, James –

Husband of Mrs. Morris, of 3, Little Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Wounded 13/11/1915 and transferred to hospital at Malta where he subsequently died of wounds. His brother John was wounded in the Dardanelles and hospitalised. His brother William served with the East Lancashire Regiment in France.
