Son of Squire and Mary Alice Bentham, of 18, St. James Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly worked as a conductor on the South Lancashire Tramways. Enlisted September 1914. Attached 9th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Died in hospital in France from appendicitis and pneumonia. Memorial in Farnworth (St. John’s) Churchyard.

Son of Mrs. Berry, of 144, Hall Lane, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Mrs. Berry, of 12, Devon Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1914. Killed by a shell blast on his dug-out.

Billingham, John William –

Of 7, Chapel Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Half brother of E Windley. One of many men killed when a German mine exploded under trenches near Givenchy.

Son of James E. and Clara Birtles, of 62, Mossfield Road, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Bithell, Herbert Lewis –

Son of William and Jane Bithell, of 49, Edward Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire; husband of Edna Bithell, of 37, Longcauseway, Farnworth, Lancashire. Wounded dangerously in the back, chest and head on 15/03/1918 and died at 54th Casualty Clearing Station.

Bleakley, William –

Son of William and Margaret Bleakley, of 21, St. John Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Of 11, Manor Cottages, Kearsley, Lancashire. Formerly employed at Newtown Pit by the Clifton and Kearsley Colliery Company. Enlisted October 1915. Posted missing since 11/09/1918 and subsequently presumed killed. St. Gregory’s R.C. Church. Brother John served in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Son of Sam and Lucy Boardman, of 27, Campbell Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Emigrated to Canada in 1913. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery.

Boardman, Joseph Alphonsus –

Son of Charles Johnathan and Lydia Boardman, of 62, Central Avenue, Highfield, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly of 19A, Plodder Lane, Farnworth, Lancashire. “During the operations South West of Wytschaete, this soldier was hit in the head by an enemy rifle bullet, and instantly killed.”

Husband of Mrs. Mary J. Cassidy (formerly Boardman), of 307, 19th Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Of 25, Bank Street, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Bolton, Thomas –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Bolton, of 40, Conway Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Moses Gate. Enlisted April 1915 into the Lancashire Fusiliers and transferred to the Railway Company of the Royal Engineers. Wounded in left arm and side in October 1917, and on recovery returned to the Lancashire Fusiliers.

Booth, James –

Brother of the late Josepth Booth, of 26, Piggott Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Of 5, Cole Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1915. Killed by the bursting of a shell.

Booth, John –

Husband of Mrs. Booth, of 5, Cole Street, New Bury, Farnworth, Lancashire. Former regular soldier with South Africa Medal, clasps for Orange Free State and Cape Colony. Shot in chest and thighs 27/03/1918, died in Canadian Hospital.
