Son of John and Marjorie Hornby, of 326, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire; husband of Christina Marriott (formerly Hornby), of 66, Laughton Avenue, Crewe, Cheshire, formerly of Smeaton Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. His brother Wilson also fell.

Hulme, William –

Son of W. H. and A. Hulme; husband of Hannah Sarah Hulme (nee McMahon), of 515, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Died from pneumonia following influenza.

Hurst, William George –

Second son of Mr. and Mrs. Hurst, of Hadfield, Derbyshire; husband of Edith Jessie Hurst (nee Leach), of 6, Melbourne Grove, Horwich, Lancashire, and formerly of 21, Victoria Road, Horwich, Lancashire. Mortally wounded 01/10/1918 and died four days later. Service number recorded as PS/8071 on SDGW.

Jones, Ernest –

Son of Thomas Jones, of 9, Evans Street, Horwich, Lancashire, and the late Elizabeth Jones. Previously worked at Horwich Loco Works. Enlisted January 1915.

Kirkman, Harry –

Son of Albert and Mary Jane Kirkman, of 46, George Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Two brothers also served.

Livesey, Joseph –

Son of Adam and Agnes Livesey, of 5, Rawlinson Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1916. Died from appendicitis in East Africa.

Longworth, Arthur –

Son of William Longworth, manager of the Horwich Bleachworks, and Emma Longworth, of 1, Edge Hill, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Some records mistakely record 10th Bn., and date of death as 31/07/1915.

Lowbridge, William –

Son of Mrs. Mary Ann Lowbridge, of 5, The Stocks, Horwich, Lancashire. Formerly 33182, Lancashire Fusiliers. Attached 7th Bn., Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Makinson, James Brogden –

Son of Robert and Emily Makinson, of 14, Pike View, Horwich, Lancashire. Reported missing since 18/08/1916 and subsequently presumed killed.

Makinson, Thomas Evans –

Son of Evan and Mary Makinson, of 12, Bottom-o’th’-Moor, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of Fawcett Hole Farm, Lostock, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted March 1916. Wounded seriously in the foot 18/08/1916 requiring several operations at hospital in Glasgow.

Son of Mrs. Morris, of 13, Duncan Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1915. Drowned whilst bathing in a river in France.

Son of Jonathan and Hannah Maria Morris, of 11, Travers Street, Horwich, Lancashire; husband of the late Emily Morris (nee Wright), of 1, Short Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Reported missing after an engagement on 23/05/1915 at Gallipoli.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Myers, of 7, Dale Street, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Formerly employed at the Horwich Loco Works.

Nelson, Richard –

Son of Mr. Nelson, of 201, Lee Lane, Horwich, Lancashire. An old boy of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Formerly 4697, Monmouthshire Regiment.

Nolan, Robert –

Son of Edward and Elizabeth Ann Nolan, of 32, Autumn Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Sustained severe injuries in the head, left arm and abdomen on 21/04/1918 and admitted to the St. John Hospital, Cheltenham. Died of these wounds.

Partington, Herbert –

Son of Henry Partington, of 10, Duncan Street, Horwich, Lancashire. Posted missing and subsequently presumed killed.
