Son of Mrs. Haworth, of 41, Bent Spur Road, Kearsley, Lancashire; husband of Ethel Annie Haworth, of 1, Barnes Terrace, Kearsley, Lancashire, and formerly of Market Street, Stoneclough, Lancashire. Formerly employed by the Ringley and Farnworth Co-Operative Societies at Stoneclough and Higher Kearsley. Enlisted 1915. Posted as missing since 12/10/1917 and subsequently presumed killed. Surname reported as HOWARTH in F&WJ.

Holt, Frank –

Son of James and Mary Holt, of 10, Baker Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Formerly Driver, Royal Field Artillery. In 1915 he was training mules when one stood on his foot causing injuries which eventially led to his death. Home service only. Interred in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard on his 23rd birthday, 22/11/1917. Brothers Albert and James both served in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Housley, William –

Son of Mrs. E. Hulme (formerly Housley) and the late John Housley, of 5, Taskers Lane, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted aged 16 in October 1914. Wounded in the foot 11/07/1916. Killed when hit in the head when a shell fell on a building he was working in.

Hurst, Wilfred –

Of 20, Conway Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Recorded as William in local records. Enlisted January 1915. Wounded at Dardanelles 07/08/1915, and spent three months in hospital. Also served in Egypt and France.

Jackson, James –

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur S. Jackson, of 88, Manchester Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted October 1916. Formerly Private 6926, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. A Lewis gunner. Wounded by bullets in the right leg and left hand 26/10/1917, and treated at Moor Park Hospital, Preston.

Son of Matthew Lawton, and Grandson of William and Martha Howard, of 2, Tonge Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1915. Memorial in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard.

Lightbown, Albert –

Son of William and Ann Lightbown, of 401, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire, and formerly of 143, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Enlisted November 1915. Suffered shrapnel wounds to the abdomen at the Somme battle 02/07/1916. Treated and died at Stoke Hospital, Staffordshire. Interred in Ringley (St. Saviour) Churchyard 20/06/1917.

Lindley, Arthur Platt –

Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Lindley, of 319, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Went down with his ship at Battle of Jutland. Body not recovered for burial. Memorial in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard. Reported as Arthur B Platt in F&WJ text.

Ogden, Thomas –

Second son of William and Ann Jane Ogden, of 14, Baker Street, Kearsley, Lancashire. Reported missing since 10/04/1918 and officially notified to have been killed on that date on 04/09/1919.

Robey, Nathan –

Son of William and Betsy, of 328, Bolton Road, Kearsley, Lancashire, later of 3, Pine Avenue, Marton, Blackpool. An old boy of Farnworth Grammar School. Formerly worked for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at the Hunt’s Bank offices in Manchester. Enlisted November 1915. Formerly 4220, 21st Bn., Manchester Regiment. Died at Blackpool, Lancashire. First soldier interred in Kearsley (St. Stephen) Churchyard.

Rogers, Thomas Owen –

Son of Thomas Owen and Ellen Rogers, of 56, Alexandra Road, Bee Hive, Horwich, Lancashire. Enlisted January 1916. Formerly Lancashire Fusiliers. Wounded July 1916. Surname alternatively recorded as RODGERS.

Rowland, Samuel –

Youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rowland, of 19, Lindley Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1918. Died from pneumonia in hospital at Clipstone Camp, Nottingham during training. Surname reported as ROWLANDS in BJ&G.

Scarlin, Arthur Harold –

Son of the late Walter James Scarlin, and of Annie Gregg Scarlin. Of 36, Church Road, Liscard, Cheshire. Fatally injured when hit by a train at New Cross Station whilst on sentry duty and died at Lewisham Hospital, Kent. Brother of Reverend William James Cyril Scarlin, vicar of St. Stephen’s, Kearsley. Interred 12/10/1914 at St. Anne’s Church, Stanley, Liverpool. Listed as H A Scarlin in F&WJ. Home service only.
