Son of George Edward and and the late Sarah Bardsley, of 91, Grasmere Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Middle of three brothers, the other two both wounded. Formerly a locomotive fireman with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Killed at the same time as his friend Gunner Robert McEvoy.
