Son of John and Margaret Devitt (nee Costello), of 14, Northumberland Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Formerly 5584, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Served as acting company sergeant major – reverted to sergeant at own request, and later demoted to private for inefficiency. Wounded in the face by gunshot 24/10/1916. Died aged 29 years and interred 08/03/1923 in Farnworth Cemetery, grave R.C. 1303.
