Johnson, John William –

Son of William and Alice Johnson, of 213, Church Street, Westhoughton, Lancashire. Enlisted September 1914. Wounded in the arm on 07/06/1917 at Messines. Reported absent since 23/12/1917 and subsequently found drowned in a shell hole or pond near Abeele reportedly after being wounded and falling in the pit. However, documentation in military records indicate death due to suicide. Recorded on all military records as William Johnson.
