Son of Mrs. Henrietta Tyler, of 930, Seward Street, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. Of 23, Lorne Street, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Worked in the Goods Office of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company at Bolton. Joined the 5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in May 1914 and was training to be a despatch rider at outbreak of war. Became Company Quartermaster Sergeant before he was 18.
