Son of Company Sergeant Major Vincent George Winder and of Margaret Ellen Winder (nee Smith), of 122, Kestor Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Enlisted August 1915. Formerly Sapper 8554, West Lancashire Division, Royal Engineers. Shot in the face and neck, completely losing his right eye. In Moorfields Eye Hospital August 1917.
