Only son of Joseph and Mary Ann Parkinson, of 72, Chorley Old Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and formerly of 43, Burnham Avenue, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Grammar School (1906-1911). An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly Private 2425, 1st/5th Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Wounded in the head on 15/05/1915, rejoining his Regiment in December 1915. Commissioned September 1916 to the Manchesters.

Parsons, Reginald Lacey –

Only son of Percy Reginald and Ada Parsons, of 32, Bromwich Street, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Winifred Parsons (nee Higginson), of 223, Belmont Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of the Bolton Church Institute and Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly employed at the Salford branch of the Union Bank of Manchester. Commissioned October 1915. Appointed Paymaster in July 1917.

Son of Thomas Henry and Annie Pegg, of Asbury House, Leigh, Lancashire, and formerly of 695, Leigh Road, Leigh, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Body not recovered for burial.

Pierrepont, James Hunter –

Son of Claud Pierrepont, dental surgeon of Bromley Cross, Turton, Lancashire, and formerly of St. George’s Road, Bolton, Lancashire, and the late Caroline (Carrie) Pierrepont (nee Ward); husband of Elizabeth Alice Pierrepont (nee Disley), of 13, Lilly Street, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted in 1914 as Gunner 1313 in the Bolton Artillery. Commissioned 28/01/1916, following promotion to Sergeant on 06/01/1916. Reported missing and believed drowned.

Porter, John Schofield –

Son of Eliza Jane and the late Richard Porter, of Langdale, Welbeck Road, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Elsie Porter (nee Lee), of “Hazelmere”, 98, Chorley New Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Served as Sergeant Signalling Instructor in his Bn. Died of wounds at the Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, France.

Priestley, Arthur –

Youngest son of the late Mr. William Priestley, of Deansgate, Bolton, Lancashire; husband of Sarah Ellen Priestley, of 12, Hillside Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly a tram driver for the Bolton Corporation Tramways Department. Enlisted September 1917.

Prime, Herbert Leslie –

Son of Mr. H. and Mrs. Ellen Prime, of 6, May Street, Haulgh, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly Private, 6th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Discharged to commission in the Royal Air Force 01/06/1918. Posted as missing and prisoner of war 05/10/1918 and subsequently confirmed died of wounds.

Roberts, George A –

One of four sons of Mr. A. Roberts, of Newport Street, Bolton, Lancashire on active service. An old boy of the Bolton Church Institute. Formerly Capetown Garrison Artillery. Attached British South Africa Company’s forces. Died 1916 after suffering severe internal injuries when thrown from his horse and interred with full military honours in the Salisbury (South Rhodesia) Cemetery.

Only son of Walter O. Rose, of 160, Clarence Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Of 132, Clarendon Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Died at the Borough Fever Hospital of cerebro-spinal meningitis.

Scowcroft, Harold Beddow –

Son of John Thomas and Matilda Ann Scowcroft, of The Waterloo Hotel, Blackburn Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Succumbed to his injuries, a gunshot wound to the thigh, at the 4th General Hospital in Versailles.

Son of John and Alice Scowcroft, of 9, Davenport Fold, Harwood, Turton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Formerly employed in the Bourough Treasurer’s Office. Promoted Lance Corporal 01/01/1916.

Seddon, Alfred Hope –

Son of Alfred Hope Seddon and Elizabeth Seddon, of 26, Bolton Road, Moses Gate, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted April 1917. Reported missing and subsequently presumed killed. Memorial in Farnworth Cemetery.

Seddon, Frank –

Son of John and Mary Seddon, of 92, Market Street, Stoneclough, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Enlisted December 1915. Wounded in the head and shoulder and died at a casualty clearing station.

Sharples, Norman –

Son of the late J. T. and H. W. Sharples, of 5, Gilnow Road, Bolton, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School (reported as Captain, Army Service Corps in “Supera” school magazine). Formerly Royal Army Service Corps. Commissioned 29/09/1915. Killed when the aeroplane he and his observer, Lieutenant Ryan, were flying observations was hit by a shell.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Shippobottom, of 85, Station Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. Of Kearsley Mount House, Manchester Road, Kearsley, Lancashire. An old boy of Bolton Municipal Secondary School. Played football as a full back for Bolton Wanderers. Previously served as Corporal GS/1926 in the 26th (Bankers) Bn., and 31st Bn., Royal Fusiliers. Commissioned 26/06/1917. Fatally wounded by a gunshot to the head. Surname recorded as Shippobotton on SDGW.
