Caught as an absentee as Private 4667 from 2nd/7th Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Bedford since 21/08/1916 and aged 27 as Private 54119 from 3rd Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Litherland since 02/06/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 24/08/1916 and 11/06/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27 & JBO/1/28). 16th Bn. at time of death.

Enlisted again 24/05/1915 Private 19264, South Lancashire Regiment. Previously wounded in the knee during the Somme battle. Wounded with poisoning a second time by a gas shell.
