Son of James and Sarah Alice Warburton, of 103, Manchester Road, Bolton, Lancashire. Formerly 35441, King’s Liverpool Regiment. Caught as an absentee as Private 4667 from 2nd/7th Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Bedford since 21/08/1916 and aged 27 as Private 54119 from 3rd Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Litherland since 02/06/1917 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 24/08/1916 and 11/06/1917 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27 & JBO/1/28). 16th Bn. at time of death.

Welsby, Matthew –

Husband of Maud Welsby, of 16, Georgiana Street, Farnworth, Lancashire, and formerly of 42, Leigh Street, Farnworth, Lancashire.

Welsby, Jonathan –

Son of William Edward and Louisa Welsby, of 32, Flitcroft Street, Great Lever, Bolton, Lancashire. Originally enlisted as Private 20946 when only 15 years of age on 13/04/1915 in the 15th Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers and discharged 21/05/1915 as not likely to become an efficient soldier. Enlisted again 24/05/1915 Private 19264, South Lancashire Regiment. Previously wounded in the knee during the Somme battle. Wounded with poisoning a second time by a gas shell.

Wem, Arthur Henry –

Caught aged 42 as an absentee from Garswood since 30/01/1916 appearing before Bolton Magistrates 31/01/1916 to be sent back to his unit under escort. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/26).

Wilkinson, John (Jack) –

Son of Charles James and Eliza Wilkinson, of 20, Harper Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Enlisted February 1917. Reported missing since 26/10/1917 aged 19 years, and subsequently presumed killed.

Husband of E. Wilkinson, of 43, Duncan Street, Oldfield Road, Salford, Lancashire. Formerly 17050, 11th Hussars; formerly 27204, 3rd Bn., Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

Williams, Robert –

Of Kinmel Park Camp, Rhyl, Flintshire. Appeared before Bolton Magistrates 25/04/1916 as reputed father of an illegitimate child in a Bastardy case brought by Ellen Spencer, of Bolton, Lancashire. (Bolton Archives: JBO/1/27 & JBO/11/5/21).
